We’ve already discussed the importance of having an air purifier, but now let’s discuss the importance of maintaining said air purifier.
As you know, not all air purifiers are built the same. However, most air purifiers are made of the same parts — that is, the air filter itself. These air filters do most of the heavy (and dirty) work of filtering out the harmful particles in the air to keep the air you breathe clean, safe and healthy.
But how long can a single air filter last before it needs a change?
On average, the recommended frequency between conventional air filter changes is every 90 days or 3 months. That said, here are some factors that might affect how often you need to change your air filter:
Air filter type
HEPA filters, for example, are made of woven fibreglass strands. In comparison to pleated air filters, fibreglass air filters generally require more frequent changing for optimum efficiency, but more on that later.
Air quality
Of course, air quality in the area you use your air purifier plays a huge role in how often your filter needs changing. If, for example, you live in the heart of a bustling city like Kuala Lumpur, it stands to reason that your air filter would need changing more often than someone who lives in the Alps (or even simply Fraser’s Hill!).
Pets
Whether it is just one fur baby or one hundred and one, there’s no doubt that they leave their mark (and fur!) in places you wish they wouldn’t. Pet fur and dander can build up far quicker than you’d expect, and they can clog up your air purifier filters before you know it.
Occupancy (or number of people living in your home)
You might have heard that dust is mostly made up of dead skin cells. Well, unfortunately – and grossly –, this is quite true. If dust consists of dead skin cells, then it makes sense that you would have more dust with more people living in the same space.
No, this does not mean you need to exfoliate all the time in the shower, but it does mean that you should give your air filter a check and a change every so often … and maybe give your mattress a thorough vacuuming!
These are just some of the few factors that can affect the lifespan of your air purifier filters. Therefore, be sure to give your filters a good check every month or so!
But what about Atmosphere SKY and Atmosphere Mini filters?
We’re so glad you asked. Happily, the carbon and HEPA filters used in Atmosphere SKY and Atmosphere Mini are so advanced, they don’t need to be changed as often as other air filters. We’ve summed it up for you here:
| Lifespan, depending on usage | When to replace |
Atmosphere SKY |
|
|
Carbon Filter | 4 to 12 months | At least once a year |
HEPA Filter | 3 months to 5 years | Every 3 to 5 years |
Atmosphere Mini |
|
|
3-in-1 Filter | 6 to 10 months | At least once a year |
And don’t forget to clean your Pre-Filter every 2 to 12 months – here’s to cleaner, healthier air!
