Nutrilite Farming Practices: Cultivating Health and Sustainability

Nutrilite founder Carl Rehnborg.jpg

Over 90 years ago, Nutrilite founder Carl Rehnborg embarked on a mission that would forever transform farming practices. His journey began on a modest 3.6-acre plot in California’s San Fernando Valley, where he pioneered a vision of organic farming that prioritised soil health and nutrient-rich crops, free from synthetic chemicals.

This dedication to organic farming practices and environmental stewardship echoes Nutrilite’s broader commitment to harmony and sustainability, as explored in our previous article "Nutrilite’s Commitment to Harmony and Sustainability".

Carl Rehnborg’s commitment to sustainable agriculture was rooted in his belief that conventional farming methods depleted soil quality and harmed the environment. Drawing from his experiences in China, where he analysed plants for their nutrient content, Carl understood the critical link between soil health and plant nutrition.

“We must learn to feed our soil if we expect our soil to adequately feed us.” - Carl F. Rehnborg

Nutrilite Essence of Farming Practices

At the core of the Nutrilite Farming Practices lies a commitment to creating a balanced environment that nurtures and protects crops. This holistic approach encompasses both soil and crop management techniques aimed at fostering robust agricultural ecosystems.

Soil Management is fundamental to Nutrilite’s approach, focusing on long-term strategies to cultivate fertile, biologically active soils. Techniques such as composting enrich the soil with essential nutrients, while earthworms aerate and fertilise, prevent compaction, and improve water retention. Cover crops further enhance soil structure, adding natural humus and promoting overall soil health.

Crop Management emphasises maintaining crop vitality through natural pest and weed control methods. Nutrilite farms rely on beneficial predator insects like ladybugs and praying mantises to manage harmful pests without the need for chemical interventions. By nurturing healthy plants, which naturally resist diseases and pests, Nutrilite ensures sustainable crop production while minimising environmental impact.

Nutrilite Continues to Embrace Organic Principles to This Day

Though Carl’s original farm is a thing of the past, Nutrilite remains steadfast in its commitment to organic farming and traceability. Today, the Nutrilite brand operates four certified organic farms: Rancho El Petacal in southwest Mexico, Fazenda Amway Nutrilite in central Brazil, and Trout Lake East and West Farms in Washington, US. These farms continue Carl’s legacy by upholding rigorous organic standards and prioritising sustainability in every aspect of cultivation.
