5 Moves To Get Fit Without Leaving Your Bed

When it’s a lazy weekend morning, the last thing you want to do is get out of bed and exercise. After all, your running shoes will wait for you, but the cosy sensation of being indulgent in bed will disappear in a little while.

So, if you want to stay in bed but don’t want to miss out on a little morning exercise, here are 5 exercises you can do in bed!


1. Detox Breath in Goddess Pose

Start the morning with a gentle breathing exercise. Lie on your back, place the feet together with knees open wide and rest one hand on your lower belly and one over your chest. Take slow, deep breaths through your nose. Inhale, and expand your body so the hands rise. Hold it for a few seconds, then let your exhale happen naturally. Repeat for 10 breaths.

2. Leg Raises

Lie on your back, hands underneath your bottom with the palms pressing down on the mattress. Lift your right leg straight in the air, perpendicular to the bed, then lower it. Before it touches the mattress, raise it back up in the air. Do the same with your left leg. Aim for 20-30 reps.

3. Happy Baby

Incorporate a little yoga into your morning with this simple bed workout. Lie on your back, lift your hands and feet in the air, then reach for your big toes. Gently draw your feet back so that your knees come close to your ribcage and hold the position for a few seconds. Relax your body then repeat the exercise. Hold for 5-10 breaths.

4. Scissor Legs

Like the leg raises, this exercise works both legs. Lie on your back with your hands underneath your hips and your palms facing down. Raise both feet straight up into the air and point your toes. Keeping both legs as straight as possible, slowly lower your right leg down toward the bed. Without touching the bed, bring your leg back up to the starting position. Then repeat with the left leg to complete one rep. Aim for 20-30 reps.

5. Forearm Planks

Get into the push-up position on your mattress, balancing on your forearms. With your weight on your forearms and toes, position your elbows under your shoulders. Lift your body to make a straight line from your head to your heels. Hold this position for 20 seconds while breathing gently. Rest for 30 seconds by placing your knees on the bed. Do three reps.
